Mullanpur: In a thrilling IPL match, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a satisfying seven-wicket victory over Punjab Kings, maintaining their perfect away record. This win came just two days after a rain-affected loss to the same team.
Chasing a target of 158 runs, RCB completed the task in just 18.5 overs, propelling them into the top four of the points table. Devdutt Padikkal shone brightly, scoring 61 runs off 35 balls, marking his first IPL half-century in 22 innings. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli played a supporting role, finishing with an unbeaten 73 runs from 54 balls.
The duo formed a formidable partnership, accumulating 103 runs in 11.3 overs, showcasing textbook cricketing techniques with minimal risk. Kohli initiated the innings with his signature pull shot off Arshdeep Singh, signaling his intent early on.
Padikkal complemented Kohli's efforts with an array of boundaries, including a stunning lofted shot off Marco Jansen. His ability to maneuver against spinners and swift running between the wickets, especially when Kohli urged him to sprint for four runs, highlighted their synergy.
Despite Padikkal's dismissal while attempting a fifth six off Harpreet Brar, RCB had already secured their victory. Kohli's innings included a remarkable inside-out six off Yuzvendra Chahal, further solidifying his status as a cricketing maestro.
Earlier in the match, RCB's bowlers, particularly spinners Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma, delivered exceptional performances, limiting Punjab Kings to a modest total of 157 runs for six wickets in their 20 overs. Krunal's figures of 2/25 and Suyash's 2/27 were instrumental in this achievement.
Punjab Kings started strong with openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, who added 42 runs in just 4.2 overs. However, RCB's captain Rajat Patidar made a strategic decision to introduce Krunal Pandya, which proved pivotal as he quickly dismissed Arya.
Following Arya's wicket, Punjab Kings faced a dramatic collapse, losing three wickets for just 14 runs, ultimately struggling to recover. The dismissals of skipper Shreyas Iyer and Josh Inglis were particularly disappointing, reminiscent of their earlier collapse against Kolkata Knight Riders.
